Since writing is used in all fields and jobs, it is a skill that every student and specialist should learn and become better at. Essay is a short literary composition on a particular theme or subject, usually in prose and generally analytic, speculative, or interpretative.

Essay Writing Online Course focuses on composition skills for academic purposes. You will expand your academic English skills and learn the necessary extended writing and research skills for producing a thorough and high standard extended essay. The course will place emphasis on macro-level composition skills such as: essay topic, essay structure, paragraph structure, thesis statements, coherence, unity, citation and referencing; and micro-level skills such as: sentence structure, grammar, vocabulary, spelling and punctuation. The course materials will be offered via videos. Students will participate in online discussions as well as peer review. Assignments allow applying the knowledge they have gained into practice.

This course is suitable for people with intermediate level of English who are learning about essay writing or who wish to refresh their writing skills. The short, clearly explained lectures are suitable both for university students and teachers and for working people.

Course Instructor

Perizat Yelubayeva has been involved in teaching and teacher education since 1997. She is an associated professor and a full-time faculty member at the Vocational and Academic English department at Kazakh Ablai Khan University of international relations and world languages, Almaty, Kazakhstan, where her work focuses on designing equitable professional development opportunities in ELT in the context of intercultural communication and critical discourse analysis. She holds a Bachelor of Education, the Cambridge English Language Assessment Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults (CELTA). She received her PhD in Foreign language teaching methodology. She is a member of national educational and methodological council of foreign language education. Over the past 20 years, Perizat has worked as a teacher, teacher trainer and academic manager and has a particular interest and expertise in the fields of English language assessment, test preparation and professional development for English language teachers.

Perizat is an author of the monograph "modeling competence based education to develop area studies students’ inter-cultural communicative competence", two ‘English for area studies students’ course books, co-author of the course book ‘English for international law students’, Kazakh-English-Russian Business Terms and English- Kazakh-Russian, Kazakh-English-Russian Legal Terms dictionaries. Also, she has published papers and presented in conferences manuscripts with an emphasis on language teaching skills, ESP, and critical discourse.
